Jessica Turnley
I bring experience and perspectives from several areas that complement those of other board members. I have experience in the non-profit sector: I have started two non-profits...one of them I ran for a few years, and it is still operating 30 years later (WESSTcorp), while the other (focused on technology-based economic development on the border with Mexico) got buried by federal politics. I also have experience running a business. I ran a small consulting business (Galisteo Consulting Group) for 28 years, and understand what it takes, in areas such as HR, marketing, and finance, to keep an enterprise afloat. I also have experience working with heavily regulated sectors of the market. I have worked with the Federal government through a number of agencies (including, and still, Sandia National Labs) and understand how to juggle administrative, health and safety, procurement and other sets of regulations while keeping an operation running. Finally, I have experience as a resident in a CCRC, having lived in I have lived in The Neighborhood for over four years, with hands-on experience in the IL and the Supportive Care areas. I have a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Cornell University (1983), an MA in anthropology from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and a BA in anthropology and English lit from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
I started two non-profits (WESSTcorp) and the Bi-National Sustainability Laboratory). Thru that work, I was instrumental in selecting and working with the Boards of Directors for those organizations. I also have been on the Board of the Albuquerque International Association, and am currently serving as VP of the NIRR Residents' Council. I was President of the New Mexico Entrepreneurs' Association, and have been involved in many professional organizations related to my academic discipline (cultural anthropology). I also have served on the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency Advisory Board, the State of New Mexico Homeland Security Advisory Panel, the (New Mexico) Governor's Technical Excellence Committee, and Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Technology Business Development Working Group
